Community visioning for the Woodville Place Plan
The Challenge
Woodville, home to 4,000 residents, is a small neighbourhood nestled within the ever-changing Hoppers Crossing. As one of Wyndham’s oldest activity centres, Council has identified opportunities to revitalise and activate the neighbourhood centre, particularly in the context of promoting walkable, liveable neighbourhoods. To guide this transition, Council is developing the Woodville Place Plan to establish a community vision for Woodville that articulates aspirations and priorities for the future.
Council engaged CoFutures to design and deliver a program of workshops with the ‘Woodville Neighbourhood Team’. The purpose of the workshops was to better understand the diverse needs of the Woodville community and to explore ideas that could make Woodville a more vibrant activity centre. The workshops also sought to enhance community connectedness to Woodville, and challenge the Neighbourhood Team to assist Council in prioritising and rationalising future public realm upgrades and improvements.
What We Did
- Organised and recruited the Woodville Neighbourhood Team to participate in the engagement.
- Developed a consultation plan to align engagement objectives with thematic outcomes and areas of influence within the Place Plan.
- Facilitated three interactive workshops with the Neighbourhood Team, including site tours, walk and talks, Lego Serious Play and community visioning activities.
- Analysed and synthesised feedback to articulate the community narrative of Woodville, informed by lived experience and knowledge of place.
- Developed a community-informed vision for the future of Woodville.
- Consolidated feedback into a Draft and Final Engagement Summary Report, which includes actions and considerations for the Draft Place Plan.
Outcomes
Feedback provided by the Woodville Neighbourhood Team has been used to inform the development of the Draft Woodville Place Plan. The Plan is expected to be exhibited for community consultation in early 2024.
